In 2018, the enrolment of students at NOSSEF stands at 380.
Fourteen years ago, St Canice parishioners made it possible to open a Secondary School by providing the funds to build the first 2-room besser-block classrooms.
Today, there are five classroom blocks, and a newly completed dormitory for 31 girl students . . . . and currently a temporary dorm for 42 boys . . . . . .
The ongoing accompaniment of St Canice’s allows Railaco’s marginalised families to grow in community, opportunity and hope.
Three years ago, 20 boys, so eager to succeed, built a temporary dormitory structure for themselves with the help of their families. In 2018, more eager students have extended the accommodation themselves, now catering for 42 boarders.
We are now finalising plans to build a properly constructed dormitory for more than double this number of boys wishing to board. The project would be built in two stages – the first a dormitory for 88 young men (using bunks), comfort rooms (toilet/bathroom), dining room and living room.
A new temporary shelter to double the number of boy boarders to 42 for the 2018 learning year has been built by the boys themselves. Seeing these students, so keen on getting the best education . . . . . . . setting about to build themselves somewhere to live during the school week, and . . . . grow some of the vegetables they need, . . . . study by the light of a motorbike head lamp, on occasion. . . . . and so much more, is nothing short of amazing.
