Since January 1990, the parish of St. Canice has been conducted on behalf of the Sydney Archdiocese by the Jesuits. Fr Chris Jenkins SJ, came to St Canice’s in 2011 and has been parish priest from 2012. Two other Jesuits make up the Jesuit community: Fr. Aloysius Mowe SJ, Director of the Jesuit Refugee Service Australia, Fr. Phil Crotty SJ, Director of Jesuit Mission.
Who we are
|Founded by St Ignatius Loyola more than 450 years ago, the Society of Jesus is a religious order of priests and brothers committed to the service of the Catholic Church.Members of the Society, known as Jesuits, are contemplatives in action. The rich tradition of Ignatian spirituality gives us a way to examine our deeper desires and discern God’s plan for us in the world. Inspired by that discernment, we serve the Church wherever we see there is need.
Partners in mission
Today, our community comprises not only Jesuits but also other men and women who share this vision of service to faith and to the justice that faith demands. Together we continue the work of St Ignatius and his first companions, serving Jesus Christ and seeking God in all things.
