Parish Pastoral Council – News

Welcome to our first parish newsletter of 2021

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St Canice’s,

I am delighted  to write to you as chairperson of St Canice Parish Pastoral Council (PPC).  Since September last year, the PPC has been working hard to make St Canice’s a truly thriving Catholic community.  This newsletter contains various articles on the great work that the team has led and initiated in the last few months.  I hope you will enjoy our newsletter as much as we enjoyed creating this communication.

The PPC firmly believes in ensuring St Canice’s is a welcoming and open parish immersed in the values of the Gospel.  We are very mindful of honouring the past work of the many that came before us in Elizabeth Bay and look forward with great hope and optimism as we find new paths and opportunities.

We aim  to ensure we provide many spiritual and social opportunities for our parishioners and seek new ways to evangelise. As a PPC, we are a cohesive group that bring various skills and talents that bless our meetings and discussions.  Below you will find biographies of the group, which I hope will give a little more information about us and the work we do.

I look forward to seeing many of you at our parish forum on Sunday 23rd of May at 11.30 am.  The forum will be an opportunity for the PPC to share our plans with you and how you can help develop these plans.

Enjoy the read

Jesuit Australian Provincial Welcoming Mass

I was delighted to attend the welcome mass for our provincial Fr Quyen Vu SJ last month at St Francis Xavier, Lavender Bay. Fr Quyen is truly a remarkable yet humble man. His homily centred on his experience as a refugee during the Vietnam War. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as Quyen recounted his story.

As we formulate the new parish pastoral plan, the PPC will be guided by Jesuit values and Fr Quyen is very keen to hear what is in store for St Canice’s Elizabeth Bay!
