The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)

Through this Rite, adults are prepared for either for baptism or to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church. Parishioners are welcome to participate as catechists and sponsors. A sponsor is a friend and companion for the candidate throughout the journey to initiation and beyond. The role of the Catechist is to nurture God’s work of conversion in the candidate, drawing on the formal Catecheses and sharing of lived experiences in his/her own faith journey.

Christian Meditation – Prayer Group

The St Canice’s meditation group is a part of the World Community of Christian Meditation, founded by Father John Main in the 1980s and inspired by the teaching of John Cassian and the early desert fathers.  This ‘prayer of the heart’ is a simple practical wisdom that brings the truths of faith alive in our own experience.

We meditate silently for 25 minutes, using a mantra, and meet each Monday from 6-7pm in the Rectory of the church.

Street Retreats

Street retreats are offered to senior secondary school students, teachers, parents and other interested groups throughout the year.  The retreats involve the sharing of life stories by the street people, walking in the area and reflection.  They can be for one day, overnight or two days. Individual retreats are also offered for up to eight days.
