Parish Community

PARISH COMMUNITY

St Canice’s is an open, inclusive and welcoming community, and we are proud of the variety of people who make up the church that we know. Our parish community is only as strong as its hospitality to those who are hungry and struggling.

In addition to our parish’s long-standing commitment to feeding the hungry in the local community through St Canice’s Kitchen, we also support a number of other local outreach programs.

David’s Place

For the past 19 years, David’s Place has provided spirituality and community to those experiencing homelessness and social exclusion in our local community.

David’s Place provides an inner-city space where Sydney’s homeless and those living on the margins gather to pray, receive pastoral and spiritual care, attend Mass and experience acceptance, fellowship and solidarity with the wider community.

Under the spiritual leadership of Sue Buckingham, David’s Place meets regularly at St Canice’s and has become an integral part of our parish community.

Curious Grace

Curious Grace is a new drop-in community centre model that St Canice’s is piloting in conjunction with the Justice and Peace Office at the Archdiocese of Sydney.

It is a community-based and community-run place of welcome and belonging for people of all ages, stages, cultures and beliefs. Offering hospitality and creative activities, with volunteers, youth and elders, and visitors all helping to create a vibe of acceptance and celebration of our shared diversity, in a place of safety and nurture.
